Vision Benefit Plans

Vision benefit plans such as VSP and Spectera, often erroneously referred to as vision insurance, can provide significant savings for you.  However, you should understand that your benefit plan does not and will not pay the entire cost of your examination and eyewear.  You will be responsible for any co-pays as well as any amount over and above the amount allowed by your benefit plan.

In addition, most benefit plans cover only a basic vision examination, not a medical eye exam.  If you have a medical eye condition such as cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, eye infections or injuries, etc. your examination will not be covered by your vision plan, but it will be covered by your medical insurance.  Your exam will be covered by your vision plan only if you have no medical eye conditions of any kind.  These are rules established by the vision plans and by insurance companies, and we follow their rules accordingly.

Be aware that if you choose to select eyewear based only on what is covered in full by your vision plan you will be selecting only the very basic materials, and these may not be the most suitable for your lifestyle, prescription, or vision requirements.
