Texas State Optical has been part of Galveston since the 1940s. The office was the fourth office in the TSO system. Dr. Kevin Katz, optometrist, has owned the practice since 1980. Dr. Melody Fikkert , who had practiced in Dallas for 13 years,  joined the practice in 2012.

The contacts lenses are discount priced to compete with internet contact lens sellers. The doctors of optometry are experts in refraction and computer vision syndrome. TSO Galveston is located in the historic downtown area, with plenty of on-street parking in front of the original 1940s art-deco building. The office is easily seen by the wonderful art deco sign that adorns the establishment. The interior maintains the deco feel with neon art work and custom made stainless steel furniture. The frame displays make use of customized perforated and polished sheet steel. All of this makes for a fantastic eyecare and eyewear experience.
